When people say the word himbo, my mind always go to Joachim Valentine. He is the definition of himbo. A big muscular man, with the heart of gold. He isn’t that bright either, but often tries to be a hero of justice under that of his Grand Papillion persona. Sporting that Golden Retriever Energy. A vampire turned wrestler turned super hero who is also an environmental activist that grabs random objects and uses them as a weapon. From Frozen Tuna to Emcee Desks to even that of the legendary Nautilus.
But for whatever reason, he was always the most annoying character in all of Shadow Hearts. While many will find him useful and funny. I just couldn’t stand him at all. His mannerisms, how he spoke often times annoyed me. I usually didn’t want to do his quests with the Great Gama, and never leveled him.
I don’t know why I found him annoying but I did. Lucia and Anastasia had more use than him and in terms of tanks Yuri in his Earth and Fire demon forms were more tanky than he was. Yeah. I was a big Joachim hater.
Though that won’t stop me from going to a con and requesting his voice actor (who also is the same voice actor as Xemnas from Kingdom Hearts) to recite his Grand Papillon speech as Xemnas.
Why? Because I’m evil and if I had to suffer so should everyone else. Kidding. But just because it would be a good time to give this old game at least some time in the spotlight for once.
Another annoying character would be the expy of him from Shadow Hearts: From the New World: Frank.
I honestly don’t know what they were smoking when making Shadow Hearts: From the New World though that will be another post at some other time.
Now Frank Goldfinger in the game is Polish….Ninja who was trained in ninjutsu not in Japan but…Brazil. You read that right and I wish that I was making that up. Now Frank and Joachim both have some similarities, they’re both not that bright and pick up random objects off the ground and use it as a weapon in the name of the environment.
The difference is that Frank is a middle aged Polish man who isn’t muscular at all. Whereas Joachim is an immortal vampire who can also turn into a bat and invisible depending on his biorhythm. I honestly don’t know what they were thinking when they came up with the concept of this character. Oh and did I forget to mention that his teacher was a giant anthropromorphic cat who can use drunken fist and is also a movie actress? No. Like I said Shadow Hearts: From the New World was something of an acid trip. I can’t really understand what was going on with that game.
But like Joachim, I found Frank to be especially annoying. And he was a character I refused to use like Joachim. I’d rather use Shania’s Earth form to tank than have him try. Or use Curvy Hilda which wasn’t all that great.
