Back in the early 2000’s there was just something about going to the video game store like EB Games or Gamestop or even Funcoland that I miss now. Now during those days I would often go with a bunch of games I wanted to trade, and while they weren’t something that would add up a lot. However I always spent some time trying to look for games.
It was something I did almost every other month. Buy a bunch of games that I wanted to play and trade in those that I didn’t want to play anymore. Either I was disinterested in, or I go stuck and couldn’t figure out how to get unstuck. There were times I would constantly trade in Final Fantasy X and rebuy because I got hit with the nostalgia bite and suddenly want to play it again.
Now Gamestop seems to be closing and the stores in the malls aren’t as big as they once were. Not to mention that there aren’t any that are close to me. All of my video game buying has been either from amazon or Target as they’re the closest things that I have. I also haven’t done any trading because there’s still games I want to play and clear through.
It truly feels as though it’s the end of an era at this point. They heyday of video games was big. And now while I fond memories of that byhone era, however, now it seems that it’s slipping away slowly. Especially as games are going to be more expensive and game companies want to keep with the Triple A nonsense that it has been trying to push for the past few years.
I guess you can say that I miss the simpler times of trying to find a few pre-bought games and even some new ones that I’d take home and play. It was the best time to be a gamer. But as they say, sometimes the times are a changing.
hard relate. Gamestop and game stores nowadays have more Funkos and merch than actual video games!
