So while the EN sphere of vtubing was dealing with the Selen Tatsuki incident, the Spanish sphere of vtubing was dealing with something similar. A number of their vtubers started to graduate en masse separating themselves from the agency over accusations of due to the workplace, psychological and sexual harassment.
Now fast forward there has been several lawsuits going against the company, though one of them ended recently with the Chilean court siding with the company in of itself.
Which seems like a miscarriage of justice but you have to understand that Chilean justice system is likely a) different from ours and b) it seemed that Rakkun who filed the lawsuit against Owozu, submitted screenshots that had notes and things written on them and also had names blacked out. Which is normal when you’re making google docs however, in a court case, you can’t have that sort of thing appear.
I’ve watched Rima Evenstar’s video going over it and any accusations that were being made in regards to her covering the lawsuit. You can watch it here. And basically it seems like that the court of Chile isn’t as technologically savvy as most people. Though as someone who had interest in studying criminal justice, and wanted to be a forensic psychologist at some point, (Look my special interests in high school were really weird.) you can’t alter things.
While you may not want to intentionally doxx people involved (which is ironic but I’ll get to that) in a court of law, however, it would have given the case a better look versus what happened. It seems as though this evidence was probably thrown out.
Again I don’t know much about how the justice system works in Chile, and my understanding is based on how things work in the US. (Again I had a weird special interest in the criminal justice system to the point where I would nonstop watch the Investigation Discovery channel. I’m not kidding when I’ve watched way too many episodes of Dateline, 20/20 and Deadly Women.)
Anyway, the other problem with the lawsuit is that afterwards or perhaps during, I’m not sure and I don’t remember but at any rate it seemed that Rakkun ended up showing a bunch of things that ended up doxxing the other people that were involved in the lawsuit which makes it kind of ironic in a way. You spend time to make sure that people aren’t being doxxed but then you do so in a stream. At any rate, the justice system sided with Owozu.
In the end the company decided to sell off Rakkun’s vtuber model along with ones that weren’t use for the amount $5 USD. Or less than that. Which, while is kind of scummy in of itself. I understand that the vtubers are often seen as brands with corporate vtubers instead of being individuals and don’t neccessarily own their vtuber models and assests. However, just selling them off is just kind of scummy. Though this is probably why I don’t want to be a corporate vtuber.
Now as far as I know there’s two other lawsuits going on. So let’s hope that there’s more of a chance of Owozu going down. Though that being said the Spanish/Hispanic Vtuber scene is thriving even if Owozu was to go down.
