Last time I talked about Twitch, I went over how they don’t want streamers to multi-stream and the issues that it’s had with keeping people on the site as there has been a great exodus of people leaving Twitch in great numbers. Whether it’s the corporations ads just decided to nope out as the kids say, or it’s streamers tired of them not giving equal punishment for people who break the rules, things haven’t been looking good for Twitch and now it’s gone from bad to fucking worse.
Hasan Piker; Dan Clancy’s golden boy, pulled out a gun, and started to threaten a chatter during a livestream and then proceeded to dox said chatter. Now, the chatter themselves threatened not only Hasan and the newly elected NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani, however, pulling out a firearm and waving it around threatening people is not excusable. Especially when it’s in Twitch’s TOS.
These are screenshots that I pulled from Twitch’s own TOS that you can read for yourself here. Now the thing to note is that Hasan did say that the gun itself was fake a lot of his fans are claiming it was an airsoft gun and that the chatter in question threatened him. However, what a lot of them don’t realize that it doesn’t matter if he was threatened or not. I’ve been on enough forums and social media websites to know that if someone is threatening you in anyway shape or form, and you threaten them back, you’re the one that gets in trouble for it. Because it looks bad on you and from the standpoint of any moderator, that violates their TOS. Every forum and social media website would take Hasan down and ban him for months if not permanently ban him for many years.
You are going to look immensely bad. Not to mention that Hasan also encouraged his chatters to try and dox the one that was threatening him. Which is a big ol’ crime depending on the state that you live in. Hasan also is known for having a terrorist on his stream and actually gave him a platform and he also read another terrorist’s manifesto. He also said that the US deserved 9/11 and got a one day ban in regards to it.
Hasan’s idealogy and the fact that he hasn’t been banned as severely as Tectone has for his own violations of the TOS, is why people have been leaving Twitch en masse, and why advertisers have been jumping ship. It’s why so many people have also thought to multi-stream, thanks to Tectone for starting the craze after his last couple of bans. Which mind you his bans was that he told a chatter of his to go kill himself; which he admitted that was deserved. The other couple of bans was because he called Frogan (one of Hasan’s orbiters or mentees who famously said that US soldiers deserve to get PTSD) fat. And he said Denims (another one of Hasan’s orbiters) was a whore after she called him a rapist, and the last ban was due to him saying that if Denims didn’t want to be called a whore then she shouldn’t have an only fans.
It’s really clear that Hasan and his people aren’t going to get banned for their own violations and even then, the ban is only going to be for a day. The last time Hasan was banned was when he had a day off. Which hardly doesn’t seem fair to Tectone, and the hundreds of vtubers that got banned for *checks notes* showing their hips. Scandolous.
Now what is likely going to happen is that not only will this open up another potential lawsuit for Twitch, but also for Hasan. And could also mean a criminal case not only against Hasan but also for Twitch for facilitating such violent acts. I mean hell I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a federal case involving Twitch at this point considering that again, Hasan read outloud a Terrorist Manifesto and had a terrorist on stream on top of the things that himself and his orbiters have said in regards to the US and American soldiers.
Though this is going to be a black eye for Amazon who owns Twitch. Their options could be to shut down Twitch as a result or fire Dan Clancy; the owner of twitch, and everyone that works under him including the moderators and hopefully hire some new people. Time will tell what will happen, but for now.
It’s not going to be a fun time for Twitch. Something needs to happen. Otherwise this could be the thing that destroys Twitch.
