The Dokibird Contraversy and the Problem with Grifting

So the last thing that happened last week was that there was a youtuber called Katliente or Katnchat that decided to air out some drama concerning Dokibird’s charity from last year and the messiness that was involved. Now for those who don’t know, Dokibird was previously called Selen Tatsuki and was employed by the vtuber company Nijisanji. I wrote about it when it happened and posted it on substack. You can read about it here. At any rate Dokibird decided to reinvent herself, and despite Nijisanji and their English or EN talent trying to blacklist her, she has been quite successful. Now that success doesn’t have it’s faults as she’s gone through a few managers.

Anyway, her charity was for artists to send in their concepts and donate things for a charity that benefited mental health research. One of the artists was Celeste who offered to build a PC featuring Dokibird’s design. The build was supposed to be something to the tune of $3500, give or take. However, as negotiations go on the number started to rise and there was no evidence being shown that this supposed computer ever existed.

The problem is that Kat or Katliente decided to not only get a lot of things wrong, but she also tries to paint Dokibird as some sort of scammer and that the managerial issues were her fault. Now Dokibird released a google document or Google Dockey in response to the video. You can read it here. I’m not going to link Kat’s channel nor am I going to link to her youtube video. I don’t want her to get the clicks.

At any rate, the thing with Doki was that she was going through a scary situation to where she lost control of her company, and her brand to her first manager. She had to leave with the help of a friend and police. She also was able to get her brand and company back with the help of a lawyer and the police. Now there have been comments in Kat’s comment system constantly attacking Doki, presumably because they were Nijisanji fans or Nijisisters who previously hated her after she decided to fight back against Nijisanji for their harassment. Especially after the black screen video that the EN talents took part in.

Now I can emphasize a lot with Dokibird. I know what she went to and what it’s like to get out of a scary situation. And while a lot of people might say “well it’s her responsibility.” The fact of the matter is that Doki didn’t have the control you think she did. Now this is just me assuming but given the language she uses in the document that it could be that her first manager might have been granted guardianship/conservatorship. Basically conservatorship is a court granted order in which someone is granted access to monitor someone’s financials if they are deemed to be incapcaitated. At the beginning of 2024, Dokibird in an retweet mentioned that she had made a suicide attempt in December. So it was likely during this that she could have encountered conservatorship. Again I don’t know for sure and like I said I’m assuming.

That being said I know from experience what it’s like trying to get out of a dangerous situation, having moved out from my parents house finally. I wasn’t able to in the past after being abused by a narcissistic parent for many many many years, until this year where I found the strength to. I know what she’s going through simply through experience alone.

Now going back to Katliente, this isn’t the first that she has done something like this. She went after a loli group either a year or two years ago. Then she clickbaited another vtuber by the name of Aliciaxdeath, and her cancer diagnosis. She brought her up again during the Doki video, Alicia confronted her, Kat tried to make the claim that it was her editor that made the mistake and then doxxed Alicia on accident (the crossing out of Alicia’s name still showed it.). Just overall Kat gets a lot of things wrong and then when confronted of it tends to throw people under the bus. Kind of like Sinder.

But that is the problem with grifting. People accuse others like FalseEyeD and Rime Evenstar of being drama tubers but the thing is that they do try to get all of the information first. They might make mistakes but they both do try their best to get the information out there. Kat on the other hands doesn’t bother. Not to mention going back to Celeste who was later revealed to be in Kat’s chat and also gave her screenshots about the whole charity. The kicker is that Celeste never once showed Doki the computer even when both she and manager three asked for proof. And she kept raising the price. But Kat tried to make it seem like Doki didn’t pay Celeste, even though Celeste was very obviously scamming Doki. And as far as the auction winner, he was compensated by Doki herself. The whole thing was a known issue until Kat brought it up.

Now for Kat I don’t think she will learn her lesson, even though she’s getting attacked on all sides for her previous behavior.
